Want or Desire

Most people believe that want and desire have the same meaning; nothing could be farther from the truth. Want stems from a position of lack, the belief that I am doing without, that I have been short changed; it is what I see myself not having. Desire on the other hand stems from a position of having, the belief that all is provided; it is what I see myself having even though it may not yet be manifest before me. Want is “me” focused and desire is “God” focused. Want is independent where desire is relational.
Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
