Don’t Wear Love, Be Love

A few years ago, I was talking with a young lady who was in the Miss Kamloops Pageant. After talking with her about what she was wearing for the fashion show, I thought of how we so often tend to live our lives as models for God rather than being one with God. As a model walks the runway, they may be wearing a strapless gown by Vera Wang or a suit by Hugo Boss. How often do we live our lives as models for God? Today I’m wearing Love by God or Peace by God, etc. We are not to wear God but rather discover our oneness with God.

It’s quite common to hear people in the Christian community say things like, “Put on love.” Colossians 3:14 NASB says: Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Notice that the words ‘put on’ are italicized. Translators have chosen to add certain words to make it sound better to the reader. There is a difference between putting on love and being love. Genesis 1:26a NASB tells us: Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” And in 1 John 4:8 NASB we read: The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. So, if God is love and we are made in His image, then we are love. Instead of just putting love on and wearing it, allow it to emanate from your life. You are love. Be love. Live love. Don’t just wear love. Today I encourage you to allow love to live through you.
