Why does one like myself write in a blog? Is it a tool so that I can validate myself? Will this make me feel more important as a person or even a minister?
These are good questions and ones that I must ask myself to ensure that I write with the proper motivation.
For me, the purpose is the love of people, the desire to see people set free from pre-conceived ideas that at times may blind us or at least hinder our forward progress in life.
As Christian ministers we have often told people what to think instead of how to think. This is a concern to me because I find that people that are told what to think inevitably form around themselves barriers that cannot be crossed. They can become dependent on others to think for them and thus remain “little children”. Contrarily people that are taught how to think are given the tools to grow and therefore can have the opportunity to mature and take responsibility for their own lives and even the lives of others.
I have often said to the people that God has entrusted me with “I do not expect you to believe what I am saying; I only ask that you would be open to the possibility that there might be some element of truth in what I am saying”. This may not be what you would expect the average pastor to convey to his congregation but then again perhaps I am not the average pastor. I am no better and no worse than other pastors, I am simply doing things in a way that I believe I have been inspired unto.
I say all this to get to this point: The things that I will be writing will be designed to expand your tent and perhaps fasten your pegs (Isaiah 54:2). You will be given an opportunity to think beyond the barriers of your own mind and heart. We are going on a journey of discovery, to search out the things of the “Hidden man of the heart” (1Peter 3:4) the Christ within. To reach into the mysteries that are now being revealed unto us and that mystery is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)
I close with my rendition of the “Star Trek Mission Statement”.
Spirit, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the spiritually hungry.
Their mission is to explore unchartered territory of the mind.
To seek out new life in the Christ.
To boldly go where very few have gone before!
Are you ready for an adventure?
