Thoughts on 2 John

If love is the ultimate command or ultimate sign of oneness with God, could the false teaching John talks about be the lack of love for all people? Could it be the ‘us and them’ mindset that separates rather than unites? Perhaps many Christians who are warning of the false teaching are living it themselves without even realizing it.

Verse 7 states that the false teachers are those who don’t acknowledge Jesus Christ coming as a man. Look beyond the simple. Do we simply acknowledge that Jesus was the Son of God born as a human or do we acknowledge the radical, counter-cultural life He lived on earth? He broke down walls of racism and prejudice. He stood up for the marginalized even though it went against the church of His day. Do we truly acknowledge the life He lived or do we just mold His words into what fits our belief system?
